By the Next Morning, Their $1.4 Million Home Purchase Was Falling Apart—and My Parents Were Frantically Calling Me, Never Imagining That One Signature Could Change Everything…

Part 2 of 3

“Your husband’s account of what happened doesn’t match several details we’ve gathered,” she explained.

A neighbor’s security camera showed Blake returning to our house after the ambulance left.

He remained inside for approximately eleven minutes before driving to the hospital.

Investigators later discovered a concealed storage drive behind a removable panel in his office desk.

They also found indications that documents had been removed.

“We’re examining the material now,” Detective Mercer said. “Some of it appears financial.”

I told her about the forged signature and my grandmother’s trust.

She listened carefully.

Then she asked something unexpected.

“Could anyone besides your husband access your company credentials?”

I thought about our finance director and administrative staff.

Then I remembered my younger brother.

Owen had worked for Blake for several years.

Six months earlier, I had found him standing behind my desk, looking through a drawer.

At the time, he claimed he was searching for a phone charger.

“My brother might have access,” I admitted.

Detective Mercer wrote down his name.

That evening, I called Owen.

He answered immediately.

“Meredith, I’ve been trying to figure out how to talk to you.”

“Did you ever use my company login?”

He went silent.

Finally, he whispered, “Once. Blake told me you’d already approved some documents and needed me to submit them.”

“What documents?”

“I didn’t read everything.”

I closed my eyes.

“Owen, please tell me what you know.”

His breathing became uneven.

“I found unusual transfers in the company records. Thirty-one payments went to outside businesses, and every authorization came from your account.”

“How much money?”

“Almost four million dollars.”

I could barely speak.

Then Owen said something that made my stomach tighten.

“Meredith, I think Blake has been preparing to make it look like you approved all of it.”

Four Million Dollars in My Name

The next morning, Rebecca returned with a detailed review of Blake’s business records.

Several subsidiary companies had received substantial payments without clear commercial explanations.

One consulting business had collected more than three million dollars.

Its mailing address was connected to an office previously used by my father’s accountant.

Rebecca cautioned that the address alone didn’t prove anyone’s involvement.

But the connection was troubling.

“If Blake used my credentials, could I be blamed?” I asked.

“He may try,” Rebecca replied. “But electronic records, device information, and witness statements can help establish who actually authorized the transactions.”

For years, Blake had persuaded me to approve paperwork without asking questions.

Now I understood why.

He wasn’t simply moving money.

He was creating a record that pointed toward me.

Meanwhile, Owen agreed to cooperate with investigators.

He admitted using my login once, believing he was following a legitimate instruction.

He also revealed that Blake had shown him edited recordings of conversations designed to suggest I knew about the transfers.

“I should have told you sooner,” Owen said.

“Yes, you should have.”

He looked devastated.

I wanted to comfort him, but I couldn’t pretend his silence hadn’t mattered.

“The best thing you can do now is tell the truth,” I said.

That afternoon, a court granted an emergency protective order restricting Blake from contacting me.

Rebecca began preparing my separation documents.

For the first time in years, I was making decisions without wondering how my husband would react.

Then a delivery arrived that changed everything again.

The White Roses and the Missing Will

A nurse entered carrying a vase of white roses.

Blake always sent white roses after our worst arguments.

I asked her to remove them.

As she lifted the vase, a folded note slipped from underneath.

The nurse immediately passed it to hospital security.

Detective Mercer returned an hour later with the note.

It contained one sentence.

Ask Meredith what happened to Eleanor’s second will.

My grandmother had left a will.

I had reviewed the estate documents myself.

There had never been any mention of a second version.

Then I remembered an afternoon shortly before my wedding.

Grandmother Eleanor had asked me to visit her alone.

Blake insisted on accompanying me.

Before we left, she quietly slipped an envelope into my purse.

“Keep this somewhere safe, sweetheart. You’ll understand when the time comes.”

That evening, Blake found it.

He told me it contained an old photograph and a short letter.

I never saw either one.

Detective Mercer showed me an image from the florist’s security camera.

The person who purchased the roses wore a dark coat and a scarf.

Her face wasn’t visible.

But she carried a walking cane with a silver swan-shaped handle.

I recognized it immediately.

It had belonged to my grandmother.

My mother claimed the cane had been donated after Eleanor passed away.

Now someone was carrying it.

“Do you recognize this person?” the detective asked.

“I can’t see her face.”

I looked closer.

Something about the woman’s posture seemed strangely familiar.

For a moment, I remembered how my grandmother held her left hand because of an old injury.

Then I pushed the thought away.

My grandmother was gone.

I had attended her funeral.

Still, the photograph left me deeply unsettled.

A Message Recorded Before Her Death

The investigators eventually recovered several files from Blake’s hidden drive.

Among them was a video recorded years earlier.

It showed my grandmother sitting in her study.

When Rebecca and Detective Mercer brought the recording to my hospital room, I wasn’t prepared to hear Eleanor’s voice again.

“Meredith, if you’re watching this, it means I wasn’t able to explain everything while I was alive.”

My eyes filled immediately.

Grandmother Eleanor looked directly into the camera.

“Blake has been using your position in his company to move money. I confronted him, but he dismissed my concerns.”

She paused.

“I intended to tell you before your wedding. Unfortunately, your mother begged me to remain silent.”

I turned toward Rebecca.

“My mother knew?”

Rebecca gently gestured toward the screen.

The recording continued.

“Your father was facing financial ruin. Blake offered to help, but he made your parents dependent on him. Your mother believed speaking against him would cost the family everything.”

Eleanor lifted a document.

“There are things about this arrangement that you still don’t understand. I prepared a second will because I needed the truth preserved somewhere Blake couldn’t easily reach.”
