Princess Anne just gave five-year warning to the royal family

As Princess Anne prepares to celebrate her 75th birthday on August 15th, reports suggest she’s quietly issued a heads-up to the royal family regarding her long-term plans—specifically what she intends to begin doing five years from now.

True to her reputation as the royal family’s most dedicated worker, Anne opted to kick off her milestone celebrations not with lavish events but through heartfelt service. Last month, she invited over 100 of her favorite charities to Buckingham Palace.

According to The Telegraph, the late Queen Elizabeth II’s only daughter spent more than two hours at the event, personally greeting and thanking as many of the 200+ attendees as possible for their contributions.

In a message delivered to the guests, it was shared: “It probably won’t come as a surprise, given HRH’s commitment to you all, that the way the Princess wants to celebrate this milestone is to replicate what she’s done on previous significant birthdays and hold this charities forum, to once again understand how she can help you, at a time when the third sector is facing unprecedented challenges and transformations.”

Princess Anne began her royal duties in 1969 at the age of 18, opening an educational and training center in Shropshire. A year later, she took on what would become her longest-standing charity relationship, becoming president—and later patron—of Save the Children.

Now, as her 75th approaches, more details are emerging about how she envisions the years ahead.

Looking Toward the Future: Slowing Down at 80

Royal correspondent Roya Nikkah revealed Princess Anne’s intentions on the Royals with Roya and Kate podcast. As cited by Gloucestershire Live, she shared: “I was told that she’s told her team, ‘I’m going to start winding down a little bit at 80 in five years’ time, and then I want to step back completely at 90.’”

This suggests that the royal family has just five more years to benefit from her tireless efforts before she begins easing back from public life.

Drawing a comparison with Prince Philip, Nikkah added: “I thought the timeline was interesting – that she’s looking at her father, the late Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip, who stepped back from public life completely at 96.”

No Signs of Slowing Yet

Despite her comments about retiring in the future, Anne’s current schedule suggests she’s still going full speed. Just last week, on July 30th, she met with performers at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, including members of a Ukrainian naval band making their debut since the war began.

On July 23rd, she also attended the opening of an accessible garden for patients at the Princess Royal Spinal Injuries Centre in Sheffield’s Northern General Hospital.

A Historic Honor for a Historic Birthday

In recognition of her 75th birthday, Princess Anne has been awarded a rare and symbolic honor. For the first time ever, the Royal Mint has featured her image on an official UK coin.

The commemorative coin bears her official Coat of Arms and is inscribed: “The Princess Royal – Celebrating 75 Years – Duty and Devotion.”

Speaking on the historic tribute, Rebecca Morgan, Director of Commemorative Coin at The Royal Mint, said: “For the first time in British numismatic history, we are honoured to celebrate The Princess Royal on an official UK coin.

“Her Royal Highness’s unwavering commitment to public service, charitable work, and support of His Majesty’s Armed Forces over seven and a half decades makes her truly deserving of this tribute.

“The graceful design by Thomas Docherty perfectly captures both her dignified presence and extraordinary legacy while also celebrating The Princess Royal’s 75th birthday.”
