Part 2 of 3

He had introduced himself as a successful businessman and allowed Sienna to believe he controlled a multimillion-dollar company.

Cynthia had supported the story.

She had even introduced Sienna to friends as her future daughter-in-law.

But the surprises didn’t end there.

Blake and Sienna were already planning a wedding in Sedona.

They had reserved an expensive venue, contacted caterers, and invited more than a hundred guests.

Apparently, Blake expected to finance the celebration with money he believed he would receive from our divorce.

Then he sent me a message.

Friday at eleven. Sienna and I are coming to the house. Have the keys ready.

I forwarded it to Everett.

“He’s going to be disappointed,” my attorney replied.

We followed the proper procedures to confirm the company’s ownership of the property and withdraw Blake’s authorization to use it.

The Mercedes was returned to the corporate vehicle fleet.

The house’s access codes were updated after Blake collected his belongings.

Everything was documented.

I didn’t need to argue with him.

The paperwork spoke for itself.

The Locked Gate and the Truth

On Friday morning, I sat in my office with a cup of coffee and watched the exterior security camera.

At exactly eleven, a hired car stopped outside the house.

Blake stepped out first, wearing an expensive shirt and the watch I had bought him for our anniversary.

Sienna followed.

She was twenty-seven, visibly pregnant, and dressed beautifully.

Her face lit up as she admired the property.

“This is really where we’re going to live?” she asked.

Blake wrapped an arm around her.

“Of course. Our baby deserves the best.”

Then he added something that made my stomach tighten.

“Natalie worked hard enough to make all this possible. Now we can finally enjoy it.”

He entered the gate code.

Nothing happened.

He tried again.

A security officer approached and handed him the formal notice.

“Mr. Whitaker, your authorization to enter this property has been withdrawn.”

Blake stared at him.

“What are you talking about? This is my house!”

“The property belongs to Prescott Solutions, sir.”

Sienna turned toward him.

“Blake, what’s happening?”

He ignored her and called me.

“Natalie, tell your security people to open the gate!”

“I can’t do that, Blake.”

“I’m your husband!”

“You’re also the man who asked me for a divorce. And being married to me never made you the owner of my company.”

He went quiet.

“You can’t keep my house from me.”

“It’s not your house. The ownership records are clear.”

Sienna’s voice rose in the background.

“You told me you owned the company!”

I heard Blake trying to explain.

Then I said one final thing.

“You wanted to begin a new life, Blake. You’re free to do that. But you’ll have to pay for it yourself.”

I ended the call.

For the first time since our marriage had fallen apart, I felt something other than sadness.

I felt relief.

His Mother’s Desperate Phone Call

That afternoon, Cynthia called again.

This time, she wasn’t angry.

She sounded frightened.

“Natalie, we need your help.”

I waited.

“We borrowed money from relatives for Blake’s wedding. We thought he was going to receive part of your company.”

“How much did you borrow?”

“Almost fifty thousand dollars.”

I closed my eyes.

They had borrowed nearly $50,000 to celebrate their son’s marriage to another woman while expecting me to continue financing their lives.

“Why would you agree to something like that?”

Cynthia began crying.

“Blake promised everything would work out.”

“And how long did you know about Sienna?”

There was a pause.

“She’s a nice young woman, Natalie. I thought she could give Blake the family he always wanted.”

Her answer hurt more than I expected.

For five years, I had treated Cynthia like my own mother.

I had taken her to appointments, helped with household expenses, and remembered every birthday.

Yet she had quietly helped her son replace me.

“I wanted a family too, Cynthia,” I whispered. “I thought you were part of mine.”

She apologized.

But some apologies arrive only after the benefits disappear.

I told her that any questions about the money and documents would need to go through my attorney.

Then I ended the call.

I sat alone for several minutes, allowing myself to grieve the family I had believed I belonged to.

The Secret Sienna Had Been Keeping

As Everett continued reviewing the financial records, another surprising detail emerged.

Sienna had remained in contact with a former boyfriend named Mason.

The two had apparently continued seeing each other during the early months of her relationship with Blake.

I didn’t want to make assumptions.

Their personal situation wasn’t my responsibility.

But a week later, Sienna contacted my attorney and asked to speak with me.

We agreed to meet in his office.

She arrived wearing simple clothes, without the expensive accessories I had seen in her photographs.

She looked exhausted.

“I didn’t know Blake wasn’t wealthy,” she admitted.

I folded my hands.

“But you knew he was married.”

She lowered her eyes.

“His mother told me you were practically separated. She said you treated him badly because he earned less money.”

I shook my head.
