Caleb and Nora still needed constant attention, and I still had a long road to recovery ahead of me.

“They are much stronger than they appear.”

I smiled back.

“Their mother is, too.”

Several months later, Conrad finally accepted responsibility for the financial damage he had caused.

The company he once treated like a throne disappeared piece by piece.

Everything he had hidden eventually came into the light.

Our divorce was completed quietly.

I received full custody of my children.

The inheritance that my family had carefully protected remained untouched.

The man who entered the hospital believing that I possessed nothing ultimately discovered that he had lost almost everything.

The Door That Opened Toward a New Life

One year later, we returned to the same hospital.

This time, however, the atmosphere was completely different.

Balloons floated gently through the air.
