“What is?”

“My brother manages a hotel in Honolulu, and he says you’re standing in his lobby.”

Camden stopped speaking.

Brielle waited.

For years, he had filled every uncomfortable silence with an explanation. This time, no explanation could save him.

“Brielle, I can clarify this.”

“Then clarify it.”

He lowered his voice.

“I’m in Hawaii.”

“I know.”

“The New York meeting was postponed.”

“And the woman with you?”

Another pause.

“She’s a colleague.”

“Do you usually share resort suites with colleagues?”

“It isn’t what you think.”

Brielle almost admired how quickly he reached for the oldest excuse possible.

“Camden, my brother has security footage, reservation records, restaurant receipts, and a room registered under your name. Stop insulting me with another lie.”

The Woman Who Believed His Story

In the background, Brielle heard a woman speak.

“Camden, did she fix the card?”

Brielle’s grip tightened around the phone.

“Does your colleague know she is spending my money?”

Camden moved away from the woman, but Brielle could still hear the irritation in her voice.

“Please transfer enough to cover the room,” he whispered. “We can discuss everything when I return.”

“Why can’t you use your own card?”

“I left my wallet at home.”

That part was true.

His wallet was in the top drawer of their bedroom dresser. Brielle had found it the previous evening.

He had deliberately taken her bank card instead.

“Then ask your colleague to pay,” Brielle suggested.

“She doesn’t have enough available credit.”

“That sounds like a problem the two of you can solve together.”

Camden’s voice became sharper.

“Don’t do this just to embarrass me.”

Brielle sat very still.

“You lied about a business trip, flew across the Pacific with another woman, and paid for it using my account. I am not embarrassing you, Camden. I am simply refusing to protect you from your own choices.”

The Visit From Hotel Management

A few minutes later, Travis called Brielle through a video connection.

He was standing outside Suite 912 with the hotel’s guest-services director.

“Are you ready?” he asked quietly.

Brielle nodded.

Travis knocked.

Camden opened the door wearing a wrinkled linen shirt. Behind him stood a stylish blonde woman in a pale blue resort dress. Two champagne glasses rested on the table, and shopping bags were scattered near the sofa.

Travis remained professional.

“Mr. Royce, the payment method attached to this suite is no longer valid. We need an alternative form of payment.”

Camden’s face lost its color.

“There must be a technical error.”

“We contacted the bank,” Travis said. “The card has been frozen by the account holder.”

The woman behind Camden frowned.

“Just use another card.”

Camden did not respond.

She stepped closer.

“You said this trip was already paid for.”

“It was supposed to be.”

Her expression changed.

“Supposed to be?”

Travis glanced toward the camera so Brielle could see every detail.

The woman looked from Camden to the bank card on the table.

“Whose card is that?”

Camden rubbed the back of his neck.

“My wife’s.”

The woman stared at him.

“You told me you were separated.”

“We’ve been having problems.”

“That is not what I asked.”

The confidence Camden wore so easily began to disappear.

The Truth Cost Him His Audience

Travis gave them one hour to provide another payment method.

The woman, whose name was Kelsey Maddox, immediately began making calls.

Camden contacted Brielle again.

“Please help me settle the hotel bill.”

“No.”

“We could lose the reservation.”

“You already lost something more important.”

“Brielle, I made a mistake.”

“Booking the wrong restaurant is a mistake. Forgetting an anniversary is a mistake. Planning a secret vacation with another woman is a decision.”

His voice softened.

“It didn’t mean anything.”

“Then you risked our marriage for something meaningless.”

He had no answer.

In the background, Kelsey was speaking loudly.

“You said you owned the consulting firm.”

“I’m a partner.”

“You said you were financially independent.”

“I am.”

“Then why are we unable to pay for breakfast?”

Brielle heard the entire exchange.

Camden had not only lied to his wife. He had built a second version of himself for Kelsey—a wealthier, freer, more impressive version.

Now both women were discovering who he truly was.

Left in the Lobby

By early afternoon, Kelsey had purchased a flight home using her own card.

She refused to help Camden.

According to Travis, they argued in the middle of the lobby while guests tried not to stare.

“You brought me here using your wife’s money,” Kelsey said.

“I was going to replace it.”

“That does not make it better.”
