Meghan Markle’s ‘truly terrible’ honest mistake on the night she got engaged to Prince Harry

The Duchess of Sussex has opened up about a “truly terrible” mistake she made on the night of her engagement to Prince Harry.

The couple married in May 2018, six months after Harry proposed. At the time, Meghan described the proposal as “so sweet and natural and very romantic.” Despite reported concerns from some royal relatives about the engagement, the wedding at Windsor Castle was watched by millions around the world hoping for a fairytale celebration.

Cooking Up a Surprise

In season two of her Netflix lifestyle series With Love, Meghan, released on August 26, Meghan shared new details about the evening Harry proposed. In the fourth episode, while cooking chicken with celebrity chef Samin Nosrat, Meghan recalled the events of that night.

Reports had previously suggested the couple was enjoying a cozy evening at Frogmore Cottage, either cooking together or with Harry preparing dinner. Meghan now revealed she was in charge of the meal.

She admitted, laughing: “I will say when I made a roast chicken for my now-husband I was still having a lot of challenges with the conversion of Celsius and Fahrenheit. I made a horrible chicken that night. I mean, truly terrible.”

The Meaning Behind a “Terrible” Meal

Despite the culinary mishap, Meghan emphasised the sentiment behind the gesture mattered most. “The point is you can make a terrible chicken and someone is still going to appreciate the thought,” she told Nosrat during the episode.

She has since perfected the dish and reportedly prepares roast chicken at least once a week. The lighthearted confession offers fans a candid glimpse into the couple’s early life together and the human moments behind royal appearances.

With Love, Meghan season two is now streaming on Netflix.
