Meghan Markle has reportedly fueled fresh rumors of a possible Vogue cover appearance after holding a discreet meeting with one of the most influential figures in media during her recent trip to New York.
According to insiders, the Duchess of Sussex met privately with American Vogue’s new editor-in-chief, Chloe Malle, at the Whitby Hotel in Manhattan last week. The meeting, which Markle attended alone, has sparked speculation that she may be lobbying for a feature—or even the coveted cover—of the magazine.
Meeting with Vogue’s New Editor
Chloe Malle, daughter of actress Candice Bergen and film director Louis Malle, took over from longtime Vogue editor Anna Wintour earlier this year. The transition marked a significant shift in the leadership of one of fashion’s most powerful publications, known for featuring global icons from Hollywood stars to political figures and royals.
Though the details of Meghan’s meeting remain private, sources told the Daily Mail that discussions may have centered around a future collaboration with the magazine.
Markle’s Longstanding Interest in a Vogue Feature
Rumors of Meghan’s desire to grace Vogue’s pages are not new. Earlier reports suggested that the Duchess had previously lobbied Anna Wintour for a “global cover” that would be published across all 28 international editions simultaneously.
“Meghan asked for control over the photographer, writer, final edit, photos, and cover lines—and wanted a global issue,” a source told Page Six. “Nobody gets that. Not even Beyoncé.”
While such demands reportedly stalled the opportunity, it’s believed Meghan continues to pursue a major Vogue feature, possibly taking inspiration from Adele, who appeared on both British Vogue and American Vogue simultaneously in November 2021.
Attempts to Pitch Directly to Anna Wintour
According to Page Six, Markle even arranged a personal Zoom call with Wintour in an attempt to pitch her vision directly. “Anna wasn’t interested,” a source revealed, adding that the magazine already had tennis star—and Meghan’s close friend—Serena Williams lined up as the cover star.
“Meghan asked for a Zoom with her to reconsider, and Anna did it to be polite,” the insider added.
The Princess of Wales Politely Declined a Vogue Cover
While Meghan’s efforts have yet to yield a Vogue cover, her sister-in-law Princess Kate was reportedly offered one by Anna Wintour herself—but declined.
Kate previously appeared on the cover of British Vogue in 2016 for the magazine’s centenary issue, then as the Duchess of Cambridge. That edition went on to become one of the publication’s best-selling issues in history.
Meghan’s Previous Work with Vogue
Although she has never graced a Vogue cover, Meghan collaborated with the publication in 2019 as a guest editor for British Vogue’s September issue, titled “Forces for Change.” The edition spotlighted influential women around the world and was released while she was still a working member of the royal family.
Now, with American Vogue under new leadership, Meghan’s latest meeting has reignited speculation that she may finally be preparing for her long-awaited fashion magazine debut.
