Everything $2,000,000,000 Powerball winner has spent his winnings on

Edwin Castro received a lump sum of $997.6 million and became an almost billionaire overnight

Edwin Castro, 31, had his life turned upside down when he won the historic $2 billion Powerball Jackpot.

Castro, from California, purchased the winning ticket from a local gas station in November 2022, but it wasn’t until February 2023 that he claimed his life-changing winnings.

As the largest ever jackpot, Castro received a lump sum of $997.6 million and became an almost billionaire overnight.

Since his winnings, Castro has splashed out on a number of different lavish purchases. So what exactly has he spent his money on so far?

Real estate

Castro has a pretty impressive portfolio of properties, from a $25.5 million Hollywood Hills house, $4 million mansion also in California and a $47 million mansion in Los Angeles.

In fact, Castro’s first big purchase, just a couple of weeks after he collected his winnings, was his Hollywood Hills home.

The 13,500-square-foot mansion sits on a 0.58-acre lot and has five bedrooms, seven bathrooms, a game room, a wine cellar, movie theater, bar, spa and fitness studio.

Some of the famous faces that live nearby are said to include Dakota Johnson, Jimmy Kimmel, and Ariana Grande.

The second mansion was purchased in his hometown of Altadena, California, with views of the gorgeous San Gabriel Mountains. It includes five bedrooms and four bathrooms, plus a pool and a movie theater.

Meanwhile, more recently, Castro splashed out an eye watering $47 million home in LA, which he bought from celebrity real estate agent Mauricio Umansky. The new home has seven bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, a koi pond and a huge infinity pool.

Cars

With a portfolio of impressive mansions, naturally a fancy car is needed too, right?

Castro reportedly bought a vintage white Porsche for $250,000.

According to the DailyMail, Castro has now built up quite the collection and also owns a gray Ram 1500 TRX, three Volkswagen Karmann Ghias, a green 1970s Porsche 356 and a black Porsche 1980s 911.

In July, Castro tweeted: “Excited to give back to the community that supported me before I won the lottery! I’ve decided to buy new cars for all my loved ones and provide funds to help people start their own businesses. Thrilled to share this journey of success with those who matter most!”.

Holidays

After securing his winnings, Castro treated his entire family to a luxurious holiday in Fiji.

Sharing photos on X, he said: “Enjoying unforgettable moments with my family in Fiji – soaking up the sun, exploring pristine beaches, and creating cherished memories together in this island paradise.”

Security

Apparently, once Castro returned from Fiji, he hired out a security team for himself and his family.
