Adorable moment between young Princess Anne and King Charles shared to mark her birthday

Princess Anne celebrated her 75th birthday on Friday, August 15, with tributes pouring in from across the UK and beyond. Known as one of the most hardworking royals, the Princess Royal remains a firm favorite with the public — something reflected both in official celebrations and in the warm response to her latest portrait.

The palace released two photographs taken by John Swannell at her home in Gatcombe Park last month. In one, Anne wears a royal blue dress with a crisp white collar and buttons, standing gracefully by a window. In the other, she beams in a vivid red dress. “75 today! Thank you for all of your kind birthday wishes for The Princess this week,” the caption read.

Rather than a grand public event, Anne marked her milestone more quietly. Earlier in June she hosted a gathering at Buckingham Palace with representatives of charities close to her heart, while on her actual birthday she was expected to spend time sailing around the Western Isles of Scotland with her husband, Sir Tim Laurence.

Fans celebrate her image and work

The portraits quickly drew admiration online, with supporters praising both her style and dedication. “Happy birthday to our most beautiful and hardworking Princess!” one wrote. Others described her as “a jewel,” “classy,” “brave,” and “a credit to the institution.”

“Well, we are so lucky to have Princess Anne,” another fan declared, while one admirer summed her up simply: “Elegant. Classy. Beautiful. Smart. Brave. She’s the best.”

Alongside the new images, rare footage resurfaced from the British Film Institute showing Anne’s earliest days. The black-and-white clips reveal tender family scenes, including Prince Philip guiding a toddler Prince Charles to inspect his baby sister in their mother’s arms. Their grandparents, King George VI and the Queen Mother, are also seen doting on the newborn.

“Days of gold and happy memories,” reflected one commenter, moved by the glimpse into the childhood bond between the King and his only sister.
