Meghan Markle recently shared a heartfelt reflection about Princess Diana during an emotional podcast appearance.
The Duchess of Sussex opened up about family life, motherhood, and her journey in the royal spotlight while speaking on her friend Jamie Kern Lima’s podcast.
Meghan Markle shares emotional “wish” about Princess Diana
Making an unannounced appearance on the show earlier this week, Meghan spoke warmly about her husband Prince Harry and, briefly, about his late mother, Princess Diana.
Recalling Harry’s previous comments, host Jamie Kern Lima said: “So Harry said publicly, ‘So much of what Meghan is and how she is so similar to my mum. She has the same compassion. She has the same empathy. She has the same confidence. She has this warmth about her.’ How do you feel about him sharing that?”
“It’s beautiful,” Meghan responded. “I wish I could have met her.”
Harry’s comparison between Meghan and Diana
In his 2023 memoir Spare, Prince Harry shared that the first time he and Meghan began speaking was on what would have been his mother’s 55th birthday.
“Eventually, we exchanged phone numbers and migrated the conversation over to text, going late into the night,” he wrote. He described texting Meghan “like a teenager” the very next day.
“It occurred to me how uncanny, how surreal, how bizarre, that this marathon conversation should have begun on July 1, 2016. My mother’s fifty-fifth birthday,” he added.
In 2022, the couple visited Diana’s final resting place at Althorp, the Spencer family estate in Northamptonshire.
Harry recalls introducing Meghan to Diana’s grave
“No visit to this place was ever easy, but this one… twenty-fifth anniversary,” Harry wrote in Spare.
“And Meg’s first time. At long last, I was bringing the girl of my dreams home to meet mum,” he continued.
He described placing flowers on Diana’s grave and speaking to her privately, asking for “guidance and clarity.” He gave Meghan a moment alone as well.
“When I came back, Meg was kneeling, eyes shut, palms against the stone,” Harry recalled.
As they walked away, he asked what she had prayed for. “Clarity,” she said. “And guidance.”
Meghan gets emotional talking about her children
During the same podcast episode, Meghan became visibly emotional while speaking about her kids, Archie and Lilibet.
She revealed that she’s created email accounts for both of them and sends nightly messages, hoping they’ll one day read the messages and understand just how much they were loved.
Wiping away tears, Meghan shared: “And that’s the best part about being a mum. We go back to a love language or gifts. It’s not about the grandeur of a gesture. It’s about ‘I see you, I’m nurturing you, and I see you so deeply, and I love being able to see your growth.’”
“I’m just so proud of them,” she added warmly.
