Kate Middleton’s ‘one demand’ before reuniting with Meghan Markle

Even if Prince Harry and King Charles manage to mend their relationship, a reunion between Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle seems improbable, according to a source.

Earlier this month, hopes for peace within the royal family grew when senior aides for King Charles and Prince Harry reportedly held a discreet meeting in London. This has sparked speculation that, if father and son can move past their differences, Prince William and Harry — along with their wives — might also reconcile.

However, insiders say that while the brothers could potentially rebuild their relationship, tensions between the Princess of Wales and the Duchess of Sussex remain deeply rooted.

The Rift Between Kate and Meghan

The strained relationship between the two women was highlighted in Prince Harry’s 2023 memoir Spare, which described a heated argument involving Meghan and Kate.

According to the source, the only path to peace would require a clear, public gesture from Meghan.
“Kate’s made it clear that she would need a very genuine apology from Meghan and for there to be multiple witnesses present if they were to communicate with each other,” the insider said.

“However, the possibility of Meghan traveling to the UK to speak to Kate is a long way off. She has far too many more important things to be getting on with, and thinks it’s Kate who should be extending the olive branch.”

The source continued, “If Harry and Charles reconcile, then Kate and Meghan will need to do the same. There’s no point in trying to heal the family drama if they’re not willing to cooperate.

But it’s already causing a big headache, as neither Kate nor Meghan seem interested in that outcome. Kate feels very strongly about staying out of it all. As far as she is concerned, she’s been through enough, while Meghan’s checked out of the royal drama and doesn’t see the point in moving backwards.”

Past Clashes and Public Revelations

In her 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Meghan claimed Kate reduced her to tears during a disagreement over Princess Charlotte’s bridesmaid dress for her wedding to Harry in 2018. She also alleged she had been “silenced” by the royal family and told not to respond to false press stories.

In Spare, Harry detailed another dispute, saying Kate reacted negatively when Meghan joked she had “baby brain,” reportedly telling her sister-in-law she “was owed an apology” and adding, “we’re not close enough for you to talk about my hormones.”

Harry also recounted an “awkward moment backstage” at the inaugural Royal Foundation Forum in February 2018, when Meghan asked to borrow Kate’s lip gloss — a gesture Harry described as “an American thing.” He said Kate “grimaced,” calling it perhaps a “small clash of styles” that unfortunately “left a little mark.”

From “The Fab Four” to Separate Paths

Since stepping back from royal duties in 2020 — a move often referred to as “Megxit” — Harry and Meghan’s relationship with the royal family has been marked by ongoing tensions.

Before the rift, the two couples were frequently seen together at events such as Wimbledon in 2018 and 2019, earning them the nickname “The Fab Four.”

A spokesperson for Harry and Meghan declined to comment on the latest reports.
