Kate and William’s ‘forever home’ means two families must move

The Prince and Princess of Wales, along with their three children, are preparing to move into an eight-bedroom mansion later this year, described as their “forever home” and a place for a new beginning.

Families Asked to Vacate Nearby Homes

According to reports, two families living in cottages close to the property were asked to leave to make way for the move. The cottages, originally converted from Forest Lodge’s stables, were believed to have been rented through the Crown Estate.

The Mail on Sunday reported that tenants were “surprised” by the request, though no formal eviction notices were issued. Instead, they were relocated to similar accommodation within the sprawling 4,800-acre Windsor Great Park.

“They were told to move out,” one source said. “I suppose they were given other places to stay, but it wasn’t something they expected. Those houses are right next to the lodge, and with royals moving in, they don’t want just anyone living that close.”

A Mansion Fit for Royal Life

Forest Lodge, a Grade II-listed property built over 300 years ago, boasts a ballroom adorned with chandeliers, Venetian windows, a tennis court, and extensive grounds. The home represents a significant upgrade from Adelaide Cottage, the family’s four-bedroom residence of the past three years.

Situated about four miles from their old home, the new mansion marks a turning point for the family. Their time at Adelaide Cottage coincided with the difficult loss of Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away just weeks after they moved in.

Leaving Painful Memories Behind

The move comes during a period of personal challenges, with both King Charles and Princess Kate having revealed cancer treatments last year. Royal insiders suggest the family views Forest Lodge as a chance for a “fresh start” and an opportunity to move forward from recent hardships.

One insider told the Mail on Sunday: “This house is much larger than Adelaide Cottage. It has a dining room and a drawing room that need substantial furniture to match its scale.”

While some close to the family believe Forest Lodge will be their long-term base, not everyone is convinced. Another source questioned the notion, saying: “How can this be their forever home? It’s not grand enough for a king.”
