If you have these two hollows in your back, here is what they mean

They often go unnoticed, nestled just above the buttocks, yet… some people find them alluring, while others wonder: why doesn’t everyone have them? Their meaning goes beyond just how they look. What these two little indentations reveal about your body might surprise you…

So, where do these hollows in the lower back come from?

Known as Venus dimples in women and Apollo dimples in men, these small indentations appear where the skin directly attaches to the iliac bone, a part of the pelvis. They aren’t muscles, nor are they the result of intense physical training. In fact, they’re simply a hereditary trait: you either have them from birth, or you won’t have them at all, regardless of how you live your life.

Think of these dimples as the small “openings” of your pelvis. If your body structure aligns with the “right codes,” they naturally emerge. A slimmer figure might make them more noticeable, but they aren’t a sign of being thin.

A natural charm inspired by the gods

The name isn’t by chance. In mythology, Venus, the goddess of love and beauty, symbolized bodily harmony. These dimples were seen as a sign of physical perfection. They continue to captivate today—a subtle detail that draws attention and enhances the elegance of the lower back.

But their allure isn’t limited to looks alone. Some experts believe these dimples might indicate good muscle tone and skin elasticity, much like subtle signs of a well-balanced body.

A link to health… or just a coincidence?

Should you worry if you don’t have them? No need to fret; their absence doesn’t affect your health. However, their location in the lower back—where important nerves and blood vessels run—does leave health professionals curious.

Physical therapists sometimes use these dimples as reference points to assess posture or pelvic alignment. It has even been noted that people with these dimples may naturally have better posture… though this isn’t always the case.

Can we make them appear?

It’s a question many ask: can exercise or diet make them appear? Unfortunately, no. Like eye color or ear shape, these dimples are a congenital characteristic. If your body doesn’t have the proper bone structure, you can’t create them.

That said, strengthening your back with the right exercises, maintaining a balanced diet, and staying active can highlight the dimples in people who have them naturally. Ultimately, a healthy lifestyle is your best ally.

Note: some cosmetic surgery procedures claim to artificially create these dimples, but they are rare, expensive, and often controversial in terms of results.

A charming detail, but not essential

These little dimples are a unique bodily signature, like an aesthetic mark passed down through genetics. While they aren’t crucial to your health, they can contribute to a certain physical harmony.

Whether or not you have these dimples, the most important thing is your well-being, confidence, and acceptance of your body as it is. Every body tells its own story… and yours deserves to be celebrated.
