Prince William could ‘remove’ HRH title from Meghan and Harry when he’s king

Prince William might reportedly “remove” Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s HRH titles once he becomes king.

This comes after reports that Meghan has been using the HRH style again, even though there was a previous agreement with the late Queen that she would not do so.

Is Meghan still using HRH?

After stepping back from royal duties, Prince Harry and Meghan agreed not to use their HRH (His/Her Royal Highness) titles for business or money-making purposes. However, they still officially hold the titles.

Recently, there’s been some controversy after reports claimed that Meghan has continued to use her HRH title in private.

This week, she made headlines again because of a gift basket she once sent to a friend. It appeared during a podcast episode where Meghan was having a conversation with her friend, Jamie Kern Lima.

A photo of the gift basket was shown, and it included a note signed: “With Compliments of HRH The Duchess of Sussex.”

When Prince Charles becomes king, those titles are expected to be removed.

Since then, there’s been backlash about Meghan using the HRH title.

Still, people close to Meghan say that she and Harry are allowed to use their titles for personal gestures.

“Harry and Meghan retain their HRH titles; however, by agreement, they do not use them for commercial purposes,” they explained.

But according to a royal insider quoted by the Daily Beast, that view is “complete rubbish.”

Could Prince William strip Harry and Meghan of HRH titles?

Back in 2020, when Harry and Meghan stepped away from their royal duties, Buckingham Palace released a statement saying: “The Sussexes will not use their HRH titles as they are no longer working members of the royal family.”

This decision came out of the Sandringham Summit — a key meeting between senior royals to talk about Harry and Meghan’s choice and what it meant for their future roles.

According to a source, the summit “made it clear they had agreed not to use the HRH titles at all, ever, in any capacity”.

Now, a close friend of Prince William says he’s unhappy about the situation. They claimed that once William becomes king, he might take away the HRH titles from Harry and Meghan.

“There is no way King William will stand for this. The titles will simply be removed when he is king. A way will be found,” they said.

This attitude is quite different from King Charles’ stance. Sources say he “has no appetite for a fight” over the issue.

Royal Insider has reached out to Kensington Palace for a response.

Meghan changed how her name appeared on Archie’s birth certificate

When Archie was born in 2018, Meghan signed his birth certificate using her full name, “Rachel Meghan Markle.”

Later on, she changed it to “Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Sussex.”

At that time, both Meghan and Harry were still working members of the royal family, so she was fully entitled to make that change. Still, the move sparked speculation about her reasons.

Some royal watchers believe Meghan made the change to follow Princess Diana’s example — Diana used to sign as “Her Royal Highness the Princess of Wales.”

Others say Meghan might’ve just been following royal rules, which often require official documents to use formal royal titles rather than personal names.

What is Meghan Markle’s title?

Meghan is officially known as the Duchess of Sussex. Even though she and Harry are no longer working royals, they have kept their Sussex titles.

She also holds the titles Countess of Dumbarton and Baroness Kilkeel.
