Prince Harry ‘offered new Netflix series’ on Princess Diana 30 years after d.e.a.t.h

Prince Harry is reportedly in discussions with Netflix about creating a documentary to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Princess Diana’s passing in 2027.

A senior Hollywood insider has revealed that Prince Harry is expected to be offered the opportunity to produce a documentary marking three decades since his mother, Princess Diana, tragically died in a car crash in Paris in August 1997.

The planned two or three-part series would be released in 2027 as part of a new extended partnership between the Sussexes and Netflix.

“The idea is that it would be a solo project for Harry, who would be a co-executive producer as well as hosting and narrating the series,” a Los Angeles source disclosed.

“He is uniquely placed, not only to talk about the woman he knew as his mother, but also to examine her role as an enduring social and cultural icon still beloved by so many.”

A production executive further explained, “It’s felt that this is something he would handle with passion and sensitivity, offering fresh insights into not only her life, but also her lasting legacy.”

Many still recall the emotional scenes from Diana’s funeral, where millions of television viewers watched a 12-year-old Prince Harry and his 15-year-old brother, Prince William, walking solemnly behind their mother’s coffin.

Our source added, “Nothing has been agreed yet, but this is being talked about in an extremely positive way.

“Harry might even see it as a stepping stone to building bridges with William and the rest of his family.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s lucrative £77.2 million deal with Netflix, signed in 2020, is set to expire this year.

Now, the couple—who are based in California—appear poised to secure a new contract, as Netflix moves toward forming a commercial partnership with them.

The streaming platform is already featuring merchandise from Meghan’s new brand, As Ever, on its Tudum website, and despite receiving largely negative reviews, has ordered a second season of her show With Love, Meghan.

The lifestyle and cookery series managed to break into Netflix’s top 10, reaching the sixth spot in both the UK and the US.

As previously reported by the Sunday Express, the Sussexes will be expected to participate in live events with fans at two large Netflix megastores set to open in the US this year, helping to promote merchandise sales.

A well-placed source noted, “Their next big deal with Netflix is going to be much more results-driven, rather than a massive upfront payment.”

Earlier this month, the studio—now boasting over 300 million subscribers—announced plans to invest nearly £14 billion in content this year.

Netflix’s co-chief executive officer, Ted Sarandos, who has previously referred to Harry and Meghan as “the jewels in our crown,” recently addressed criticism of the Duchess’s new show.

He stated, “We’re a passive partner in Meghan’s company, and it’s a big discovery model for us right now.”

Representatives for both Prince Harry and Netflix declined to provide official comments.
