King Charles’ cancer giving Palace a headache, claims expert

King Charles continues to fulfill his royal duties while undergoing cancer treatment, a battle that is expected to extend into 2025.

His planned state visit to Italy in April suggests that his treatment is progressing well, but not everyone is optimistic about the future. Some experts warn that the monarchy may face significant challenges ahead.

The past year has been difficult for Charles. He lost his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, in 2022, and more recently, he has mourned the passing of two close friends—his longtime friend Ian Farquhar and spiritual leader The Aga Khan. His reign began under turbulent circumstances, with ongoing tensions surrounding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, and later, the shocking news of his cancer diagnosis.

Despite his illness, Charles chose to publicly share his diagnosis, a decision that reportedly went against Queen Camilla’s wishes. His openness had a major impact, leading to a surge in people seeking cancer screenings. In a heartfelt message, he expressed gratitude for the support he received:

“I would like to express my most heartfelt thanks for the many messages of support and good wishes I have received in recent days. As all those who have been affected by cancer will know, such kind thoughts are the greatest comfort and encouragement.”

He also highlighted the importance of raising awareness:

“It is equally heartening to hear how sharing my own diagnosis has helped promote public understanding and shine a light on the work of all those organizations which support cancer patients and their families.”

Although the exact type of cancer he has remains undisclosed, reports indicate that his treatment is progressing in a positive direction. Experts emphasize that long-term treatment is common, with various approaches such as chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and surgery being part of the process.

While Charles has taken some time off from royal duties, Camilla and Prince William have stepped up to support him. In April, Charles and Camilla will travel to Italy, marking his 17th visit to the country. They will also meet Pope Francis as part of the 2025 Catholic Holy Year celebrations.

Former royal butler Grant Harrold noted that careful planning has been crucial given Charles’ health:

“They’ve probably just been sensible about how they plan these kinds of things. This is already his ninth visit since becoming king.”

Despite his efforts to carry on, concerns about his health persist. Royal expert Daniela Elser compared recent photos of Charles to ones taken four years ago, pointing out visible differences in his appearance. She warned that Buckingham Palace faces an unprecedented challenge in managing a monarchy led by an aging and ailing king with limited family support.

Adding to his hardships, Charles recently suffered another personal loss. His longtime friend, The Aga Khan, passed away at age 88. The two had shared a close bond, and Charles was said to be “deeply saddened” by his passing.

As Charles continues his reign amid health struggles and personal losses, the question remains: Will he eventually step down, or will he remain on the throne until the end?
