Meghan Markle ‘hurt’ by recent criticism as Duchess feels unfairly ‘treated like garbage’

Meghan Markle is reportedly “upset” over the criticism she’s faced after assisting those affected by the LA wildfires.

Meghan is said to be “hurt” by the backlash following her visit to Los Angeles, where she volunteered to help those impacted by the devastating wildfires.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex traveled to Pasadena on January 10 to visit an evacuation center and food bank. Meghan, born and raised in Los Angeles but now living in Montecito, returned to her hometown to volunteer at a teen charity’s warehouse.

Harry and Meghan encouraged people to “open their homes” to evacuees and “check-in” on “disabled or elderly neighbors” in a statement that also listed fire service charities, animal groups, and other initiatives supporting those affected.

However, their visit drew fierce criticism, with Hollywood actress Justine Bateman calling them “disaster tourists” and accusing them of staging a “repulsive photo-op.”

An insider revealed that the criticism hit a “major nerve” for Meghan, who reportedly feels “she’s still being treated like garbage” despite her efforts to help.

A source told Heat magazine, “For Meghan, it cuts extremely deep. This is her home city burning, and she wants to help, yet she’s still treated poorly.”

Harry reportedly reassures Meghan, telling her to “turn the other cheek” and stay positive, but the criticism “hurts like hell” for both of them.

The insider added that the Sussexes are “stunned and appalled” by the negative reaction, feeling they are “unfairly treated.”

“They know they can’t win no matter what they do. Their haters will always find ways to tear them down,” the source said. “Being labeled as opportunistic attention seekers for trying to help is truly shocking to them.”

Meghan is described as “heartbroken” by the wildfires, which have killed at least 27 people and destroyed over 14,000 structures.

“Meghan is a California girl, this is heartbreaking for her on many levels,” the source added. “They’re sad but proactive, looking for ways their foundation can help. The pain and suffering in the city they love are devastating to them.”
