Kate Middleton is keeping ‘very calm’ as she avoids ‘drama’ amid cancer battle

Five months on since Kate Middleton revealed she was battling cancer, one royal expert has weighed in on her ‘very calm’ approach to recovery while avoiding the stress of any ‘drama’

As Kate Middleton continues her private battle with cancer away from the spotlight, a royal expert and author has now weighed in on how she is keeping a cool and collected mindset amid her ongoing recovery. Robert Jobson, the author behind a new biography detailing her life, recently told Hello! magazine that Kate is “very calm” amid her health woes.

He explained: “She’s a person who wants to find solutions and rise above the noise and the drama, and I think, given what she’s gone through, you don’t want to waste any time on noise, on drama, when you’ve had anything to do with your health. … You live day by day; you do the things you want to do.”

The 42 year old royal announced that she had been diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer earlier this year following a several month long absence from public engagements which saw countless internet sleuths float many conspiracy theories about her ‘disappearance.’

Faced with such a minefield of incorrect speculation, the Princess of Wales bravely revealed to the world in March that she had been diagnosed with the illness following abdominal surgery and told the public that she would be stepping back from public duties temporarily while undergoing chemotherapy.

Since that fateful announcement, Kate has appeared in public on only a handful of occasions including at this year’s Trooping the Colour and Wimbledon tournament. She also updated fans on her health progress back in June when she announced that she would still be in treatment for a “few more months” but was “making good progress.”

In addition, even despite her cancer diagnosis, Jobson pointed out that Kate had previously made it known to the late Queen Elizabeth and King Charles, that she would not be “rushed into doing things she doesn’t necessarily want to do” – which crucially included putting the royal family before her role as a mother.

“That takes quite a lot of courage because you’re in a very alienated world,” Jobson told the outlet. “But I think she realised that she only has one shot at this. She’s got three young children, and they have to come first.”

As her children are still so young, Jobson argues that Kate is making the most of the “time she won’t get back” and enjoying spending time with her kids as much as possible, such as her outing at Wimbledon when she was accompanied by daughter Princess Charlotte.

“The difference between her and other people is that in your career you may have different phases,” he explained. “With her career, it’s only going to get more and more official.”

Keen to avoid the tropes of royal parents that have come before them, both Prince William and wife Kate have made a conscious effort to modernise their parenting style, with a greater reliance on doing things for themselves rather than hiring a nanny and countless staff members.

“Wherever possible Kate will do the school run and drop, she makes a point of being there for the school plays and sports days too,” Jobson told Us Weekly last month. “The princess believes it’s so important to do the little things and do them consistently.”
