During my last flight, a seven-year-old boy kept kicking my seat. Nothing seemed to calm him down — so here’s what I decided to do.

It happened on my last trip. After a long business journey, I was completely exhausted. All I wanted was to get home and rest. Since it was a long flight, I hoped I could catch some sleep on the plane.

I settled quietly into my seat and was just about to drift off when I heard a little boy start talking. He must have been around seven years old and wouldn’t stop asking his mother questions.

You know those moments when kids just have to talk — about anything — even when what they’re saying makes no sense?

Normally, that wouldn’t have bothered me, but that day I was so tired I couldn’t handle the noise. And that wasn’t the worst part — every now and then, he kicked the back of my seat. At first, it was just a light tap. Then harder. And harder.

I really wasn’t in the mood to put up with it. Despite my polite requests to his mother — and even the flight attendant stepping in —

nothing worked. The kid just wouldn’t stop. So I decided to take matters into my own hands. Here’s what I did.

At the end of my patience, I thought of a subtle solution.

I studied the situation, looking for a way to influence things indirectly.

Then I leaned my seat back abruptly — spilling my juice all over the mother’s lap.

She jumped up, furious, shouting in surprise. The boy froze instantly under her glare, wide-eyed and silent.

He didn’t kick again.

The rest of the flight passed in almost total silence.

And for the first time that day, I could finally relax — undisturbed.
