King Charles and Prince William made a rare public appearance together on Thursday evening at a reception focused on climate action, held ahead of the COP30 conference set to take place in Brazil next month.
According to Kensington Palace, the Prince of Wales will officially represent his father, King Charles, at the upcoming summit.
A Royal Evening for the Planet
On October 9, the monarch and his heir attended the Countdown to COP30 event at London’s Natural History Museum. The gathering aimed to spotlight key environmental challenges leading up to the major UN climate conference.
King Charles, 76, and Prince William, 43, were seen arriving together and speaking warmly with guests, including environmentalists, scientists, and political leaders. Among the attendees were Energy and Climate Change Secretary Ed Miliband, Environment Secretary Emma Reynolds, and former Prime Minister Theresa May.
Footage shared on the royal family’s official Instagram delighted fans, many expressing joy at seeing the father and son side by side on a shared mission.
“Love a father & son outing,” one fan commented.
Another wrote, “So happy to see the two of them together.”

Prince William to Represent the King in Brazil
Kensington Palace confirmed that Prince William will travel to the Brazilian city of Belém next month to attend COP30 on behalf of King Charles. The prince will already be in Brazil for the fifth annual Earthshot Prize ceremony, taking place in Rio de Janeiro on November 5.
COP30, the 30th United Nations Climate Conference, will run from November 10 to 21 — an event traditionally close to the King’s heart, as he has led or supported several past summits.
A Shared Legacy of Environmental Leadership
Both King Charles and Prince William have long been advocates for protecting the planet. As far back as 1970, at just 21 years old, Charles warned in a landmark speech about the growing dangers of plastic pollution.
Prince William has often spoken about how his father inspired his environmental commitment. He has recalled that Charles would take him and Prince Harry litter-picking during their childhood to teach them respect for nature.
In 2020, following his father’s example, William founded The Earthshot Prize — a global environmental award recognizing five winners each year for groundbreaking solutions to environmental challenges.
Their joint appearance this week reflected not only a rare public moment between father and son but also their enduring shared mission: to protect the planet for future generations.
